Links and Resources

It takes more than just a pedal steel guitar to make music. You need a good amp, picks, a good steel bar, two cables, and a volume pedal. You also need a teacher or some type of instructional material (both would be preferable). Some friends to play music with never hurts, either.

I don't intend to get in the business of selling accessories, others are in that business and I will point you to them. I may occasionally have some good used equipment to sell, though, so just contact me if you are looking for anything in particular.

www.steelguitarforum.com A wonderful community of steel guitar players whose combined knowledge of pedal steels, music in general, and darn near anything else is simply amazing. Also a great place to buy and sell equipment

www.zumsteel.net An information website for ZumSteel professional pedal steels. A whole bunch of the very finest play Zumsteel, and with good reason.

www.jeffran.com If you want to learn to play, this is one of the best places to go. Jeff Newman was an extraordinary teacher and player. He and his wife Fran put together some great DVD's to get you started in the right way. Fran is carrying on the business and it is every bit as good as before Jeff's untimely passing.

www.jeffran.com  JF Finger picks and thumbpicks, I love 'em and so do a lot of other people. Fran also sells tone bars. If you play a 10-string, you probably want a 10-string bar, 7/8" diameter.

www.hiltonelectronics.net Volume pedals and other goodies. Keith Hilton makes a volume pedal that does not use a potentiometer. While a bit pricey, they are a fine piece of equipment and well worth the price charged. Nothing to wear out, guaranteed, and may very well be the only volume pedal you will ever need to buy. Plus, Keith is a great guy, a great player, builds his own product and lives in the Ozarks.

www.jimdunlop.com Picks and tonebars

www.ernieball.com Volume pedals that are certainly good enough (side mount inputs),picks, tonebars, strings, and just about everything else.

www.ghsstrings.com Strings, cables, accessories.  Original equipment on Stage One guitars.

www.davevanallen.net Check out "The Z files, a Zumsteel Gallery" for pics of some fine pro model ZumSteels.
